The Truth about Irving Moskowitz – Who Is Dr. Irving Moskowitz?
One who reads some of the biased attack pieces on Irving Moskowitz through the years may be fooled – so wanted to share some basic information on the man.
Irving Moskowitz was born in New York City and raised in Milwaukee, as the ninth of 12 children. He has said often that his experiences in Milwaukee had a profound impact on his life, as it was a tough place for young Jews. He became a great athlete, but refused an offer from a local minor league team as he had already decided that medicine was his ticket to escape poverty.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1952, and moved to Southern California to begin his career as a doctor. A few years later, Moskowitz bought his first hospital in California, the first in a series of shrewd business decisions and made the first of dozens of trips to Israel, which seemingly changed his life.
The man with his wife, Cherna Moskowitz have eight children and are religious Jews who care about their people. Dr. Irving Moskowitz has achieved the American dream – coming from nothing to make millions, and all he has done is support the Jewish people.
He says he first started giving major donations after he received a letter from Israel’s Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, after the 1967 Middle East War who said “We need more Jews, in the liberated territories.” He started giving generously.
He has simply said: “What could be more natural for a person with [my] upbringing, than to want to help his people in Israel who are being surrounded by people that want to destroy the country?” He is an Orthodox Jew who lost 120 relatives in the Holocaust, and has simply made money, and is generous in giving charity. Simple tough Jews who made it.
Many discuss “co-existence” but never ask the simple questions as Moskowitz does: “If the peace process is incapable of digesting the presence of 50 Jewish families 860 yards from the Western Wall and barely a mile from the King David Hotel, then its fragility is indeed beyond repair.” “That would be defined as racism anywhere outside the Middle East.”
I am proud to know the Moskowitz family for many years – and simply they do things quietly and say they are doing the “natural thing for a Jew,” trying to “save our nation.” The entire Jewish world should say thank you to Cherna and Irving Moskowitz.
Ze’ev Jabotinsky , the great Zionist leader once said: “God’s name is not Unity but Truth.” Jews must join Jewish heroes like the Moskowitz family and speak truth to power.
