The Media Sees Through It All
Partial book excerpt from best-selling PR book author Ronn Torossian: “For Immediate Release: Shape Minds, Build Brands, and Deliver Results with Game-Changing Public Relations”
At 5WPR through the years, we have represented thousands of clients, and I like to think this Bronx boy still has a good BS meter. From the first minute I met Marc Dreier in his law offices, something seemed off. Attorneys make a good living, but they aren’t uber-wealthy swimming in cash. It’s a service business, and even the top partners at law firms make a few million dollars.
The first time I met Marc Dreier was at his Park Avenue office headquarters, and when he gave a tour of the office he noted that there was more than $25 Million in art on the walls in the office. And he noted how Bon Jovi performed at the company party, showed pictures of his expensive yacht, Upper East Side triplex, Hamptons home, private jets, and on and on. He spoke of the amazing salaries he paid his employees of his law firm – and as I got to know him realized he came from an upper middle class background but certainly not the wealth he claimed to have.
We work with many law firms – Tough clients, but Dreier was very different. Dreier was drawn to us because of our work with celebrities, and he had a strong desire to break into the entertainment world. White shoe-law firms simply don’t want to be involved with C & D level celebrities – it didn’t make sense.
Have to say I wasn’t surprised to read when he was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for a massive investment fraud. The media eventually sees through BS.
