Many of us have started 2012 somewhat resolute in our goals of eating healthier and exercising more. But are we truly exercising or simply engaging in palisthenics?
Palisthenics
Palisthenics (n) – light exercises done with a partner that are more conversational than exhaustive in nature
Sample Sentence: After a month of supposedly rigorous palisthenics with my friend, Dave, I was blubbergasted (another wordapod) when I discovered that I had actually gained 12 pounds.
You Know What…?
Hannah Littleberg, a personal trainer in Warsaw, Indiana, has devised a survey to detect if one is serious about exercise or just in it for the palisthenics. She said that you are in the latter camp if you answer “yes” to four or more of these seven questions:
- Are more than 80% of your workouts with someone else?
- Do you frequently go out to eat immediately after exercising?
- Do you talk more than you run or lift?
- Do you wear clothes more for style than practicality?
- Do you love to ride in elevators?
- Do you consider yourself to be a Republican?
- Are you more than 20 pounds overweight?
