New United Nations Report On Social Media & Terrorists
The United Nations recently released a report called “The Use of the Internet for Terrorist Purposes” which can be read at: http://www.unodc.org/
Yury Fedotov of the United Nations said: “Potential terrorists use advanced communications technology often involving the Internet to reach a worldwide audience with relative anonymity and at a low cost.” Perhaps it can be said that America enables terrorism – as Facebook, twitter and other American owned companies are allowing terrorists to spread their message via these channels. Social media is an excellent low-cost Public Relations tool.
Hamas tweets regularly via @hamasinfo, @AlqassamBrigade, Hezbollah almanarnews, Al-Shabaab @HSMPress, @alemarahweb posts to the Taliban official website, @al_nukhba features transcripts of messages from al Qaeda – and there are many others.
