Divest Yourselves From Israel Parade, Businessman Tells Boycott Groups

A Jewish business group today has demanded that boycott Israel groups be barred from the Israel Day Parade in New York City on June 3rd.

“Why are Jewish groups that attempt to inflict economic damage on Israelis through BDS and blacken Israel’s image given a place in the Israel Day Parade?” asked Richard Allen, founder of JCC Watch, a business group that monitors the boycott Israel movement.

Jewish groups, rabbis and organizations have lined up behind JCC Watch in its effort to throw a number of groups out of the parade.

In an editorial published in Arutz Sheva, Allen questioned why groups dedicated to the destruction of Israel’s economy through boycotts, sanctions and divestments should be allowed to march in a parade that celebrates and loves Israel.

Allen singled out the New Israel Fund (NIF) as one organization that promotes boycotts against Israel. The NIF receives money from the European Union which attempts to influence Israeli policy through front organizations, Allen said.

The NIF then turns around and gives money to various Israeli non-governmental organizations that may promote boycott and sanction movements against Israel.

Allen pointed to the Coalition of Women for Peace, Social TV, Machsom Watch, Mossawa and Women Against Violence which received money from NIS. These groups have signed and sent a letter to the Norwegian Government Pension Fund, asking it to divest its money from Israel, Allen said.

Last year, the NIS received permission to march in the parade. It was joined by Partners for Progressive Israel, B’Tselem and Rabbis for Human Rights. All are expected to show themselves at the parade this year. Allen wants them out.

Partners, also called Meretz USA, displays a headline on its website, urging Jews to boycott settlement products, including Ahava cosmetics, nine Israeli wines and SodaStream goods, said Allen.

Oren Yiftachel, chairman of B’Tselem’s board, has publicly advocated for sanctions against Israel, Allen said.

In 2010, NIF publicly disavowed the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) movement, yet it continues to bankroll groups that support BDS campaigns, Allen said.

Allen announced the creation of the Committee for a Pro-Israel Parade which would work to persuade the parade organizers to withdraw invitations to these groups. To date, the committee has lined up support from about 15 rabbis and Jewish groups.

Allen believes his organization will encounter resistance from the parade organizer, the Jewish Community Relations Council, because John Ruskay, who heads the UJA-Federation of New York, is a major contributor.

Noam Chomsky worked with Ruskay to start the Committee on New Alternatives in the Middle East. He also gave more than $1 million to the George Soros group called Jewish Funds for Justice, Allen said.
