Wednesday’s Wordapod

During this election year, it’s somehow helpful to remember that our political system could be much worse. How, you ask? We could be subject to a carrotocracy. Read on.
CARROTOCRACY
Carrotocracy (n) – an unusual political system in which people possessing the biggest carrots are rewarded with power and fame
You Know What…?
Researching a ton of world political history, I could not find any evidence of an actual carrotocracy. Meredith Lewin, author of the excellent book, Suburban Legends: Far and Wide, did note the following:
“In the 4th Century B.C., in a land mass now known as Slovenia, there existed a carrotocracy that was run by farmer Slavoj Hanoj. Alleged to possess the biggest carrots in town, he and his fellow farmers were put in charge of all phases of the kingdom’s economic, domestic and international affairs—such as they were at the time.
The experimental government proved to be disastrous, and Hanoj and his cronies soon lost control. They were done in by a hostile coup led by a bunch of snowman impersonators. Some of these militant revolutionaries may have even been male porn stars.”
