14,000 Israeli Soldiers-in-Need to Receive $1.5M in New Year’s Gift Cards from The Fellowship, FIDF

Every IDF soldier requiring financial assistance

will receive a ‘Fellowship Gift Card’ for Rosh Hashanah

IFCJ-FIDF-1TEL AVIV, Sept. 10 — The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (The Fellowship) led by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein and Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF), in collaboration with the Association for the Wellbeing of Israel’s Soldiers (AWIS), will provide their annual Rosh Hashanah “Fellowship Gift Cards” to over 14,000 soldiers-in-need and Lone Soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The holiday gift cards, valued at 500 NIS ($125) each, will be given to 9,600 Lone Soldiers and soldiers-in-need who are eligible for aid. At the request of the IDF, The Fellowship approved an additional gift card of 250 NIS ($65) apiece to 4,500 soldiers-in-need who do not meet the criteria for vouchers but are still struggling to make ends meet this holiday season.

The gift cards will allow the soldiers to celebrate the holiday without the burden of financial stress. They can be used in major retail chain stores across Israel to purchase food, clothing, shoes, sporting goods and leisure products.

Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, founder and president of The Fellowship, said: “Israel’s growing poverty affects its soldiers, as well. We honor those IDF enlistees who serve the State of Israel and keep us safe despite the economic difficulties they face at home. We are proud to provide them with Fellowship Gift Cards that help ease the burden and sweeten their New Year.”

Maj. Gen. (Res.) Meir Klifi-Amir, national director and CEO of FIDF, said of the men and women who serve in the IDF: “We at FIDF believe that their job is to look after Israel – and it is our job to look after them. Therefore, it is our duty to make sure that every soldier celebrates Rosh Hashanah with their head held high, knowing that we are proud of them and salute them for their service and commitment to the State of Israel and the Jewish people.”
